The index is grouped by a certain attribute shares, bonds or a mix of both. The index is designed to provide a more general picture of a particular market. For example, the leading US index S&P 500 includes 500 of the largest companies in the USA, and this index is often referred to as the "market" in the USA. Other leading indices are the British FTSE100, which includes 100 of the largest companies whose shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange, DAX, which includes 30 large companies from Germany, which are traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and others. In Bulgaria, the leading index is SOFIX, which includes 15 companies.
